Energy production efficiency in India
A recent Planning Commission study shows that relative power costs in India are amongst the highest in the world and up to thrice those in the US.

The current efficiency levels of transforming coal energy into power is no more than 30.5% on average, in India. In glaring contrast, the corresponding efficiencies in Germany for example, are as high as 46%. If the ratio was 40-42% here, we would be getting one-third more power using the same amount of coal.
