    • It was alleged that there were racial comments on Shilpa Shetty, during a reality show ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ on Britain Channel 4.

  • Energy appliances manufacturers gear up for energy ratings
    • Energy efficiency rating is made mandatory on all durable products by the BEE (Bureau of Energy Efficiency) from April 1, 2007.

  • Some details about privatization of railway container services
    • The railways is targeting to transport 100 mn tonnes of cargo per annum through containers by 2011-2012, and privatization of container services is one of its strategies in achieving the same.
    • Currently, Indian Railways carries 70 mn tonnes of cargo per annum.
    • Railways’ PPP model is very simple: Separating rail from wheels. Under this model, an MCA (Model Concession Agreement) is drawn up. This MCA mandates that companies would buy containers from manufacturers, build inland container depots (ICDs) and find customers. The railways would run the goods trains. As owner of the rail infrastructure, the railways would charge a fixed haulage fee from these companies. These companies would be free to charge freight rates from the consignees.
