  • Offer farm loans at 4%: Hooda panel
    • Keeping in mind the agricultural crisis over the last decade, a key government panel on farm production has recommended cheaper farm loans at 4% and a minimum support price, or MSP, at 50% over the actual cost of cultivation. The panel, headed by Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, submitted its report with 150 suggestions to the prime minister on Wednesday. Comprising central ministers and chief ministers of Bihar, Punjab and West Bengal, the core group would meet again on December 28.
    • The report assumes significance as India is struggling with food inflation that many economists say has become structural and can be addressed only by boosting farm productivity.
