  • India Inc battles cyber squatters in court
    • Cyber squatting or domain squatting has become a big headache for India Inc.
    • Cyber squatting is registering, trafficking in, or using a domain name with bad-faith intent to profit from the goodwill of a trademark belonging to someone else. The cyber squatter then offers to sell the domain to the person or company who owns a trademark contained within the name at an inflated price.
    • Currently there are about 140 mn registered domains on the Internet.
  • Commercial space tourists
    • These include Dennis Tito, Mark Shuttleworth, Gregory Olsen, Anousheh Ansari and Charles Simonyi.
    • The first Indian belonging to this category is Santosh George Kulangara.
  • Geoweb
    • It is the convergence of geographical (location based) information with details that are available on the internet.

  • Tourist arrivals on upswing
    • In the first 9 months of the year 2007, the arrivals have touched 3.5 mn as against 3 mn in the same period last year.
  • Crude price hits an all time high of $84
    • Despite this peak, which is attributed to the mounting tensions between Turkey and northern Iraq and also the lingering supply concerns ahead of the Northern Hemisphere winter, it has not yet grabbed the attention of the government in India. Perhaps, with a view to have some leverage in the event of declaration of an early poll, the government seems to be dithering on the price correction of fuels. All the talk of nuclear deal, though being a disappointment, is not the end all and be all of the government and that the government is not a one issue government etc., is pointing to some stacking up of surprise decisions on early polls.
    • But as they say politics is the art of the impossible. Let us wait and watch. There could be a feeling in the Congress party that it will not be able to improve its position in the event of an early poll. Or it may be working on something else behind the public gaze.
